Emergency: get help now

Emergency

If there is a bite injury, suspected poisoning, heatstroke or difficulty breathing: get help immediately.

If a person is hurt: emergency number 112 (in Switzerland also 144). For your dog: straight away to the vet practice or an animal clinic with an emergency service.

Has a person been injured by a bite, especially a child or in the face? Call the emergency number: 112, in Austria and Switzerland also 144.

Has your dog collapsed, is he struggling to breathe, is he panting very heavily after heat or a car journey, or might he have eaten poison or a bait? Call your vet practice or an animal hospital with an emergency service straight away.

Training doesn’t matter right now. Once everyone has been looked after, you’ll find the next steps here.

Until then

  • Get yourself and others to safety. Your dog goes into another room (door closed) or on the lead.
  • In the heat, your dog must get into the shade. Wet him with cool (not ice-cold) water and call the vet practice while you do.
  • Suspected poisoning: take the packaging, the bait or plant remains with you. Don’t make him vomit yourself unless the practice tells you to.
  • Your dog is never left in a parked car, not even briefly and not even on mild days.
