Have a vet take a look
Emergency
If there is a bite injury, suspected poisoning, heatstroke or difficulty breathing: get help immediately.
If a person is hurt: emergency number 112 (in Switzerland also 144). For your dog: straight away to the vet practice or an animal clinic with an emergency service.
More about emergenciesWhen a dog suddenly behaves differently, there’s often something physical behind it, for example pain. So it’s best to have your dog examined by a vet. Tell the practice exactly what you’ve noticed and since when. A short phone video often helps.
In the meantime, you can keep practising with Kroki. Keep the sessions short and calm, and stop as soon as your dog shows pain or doesn’t want to carry on. This is not a diagnosis.
Until then
- Write down what you notice: what, when, how often and since when.
- Film short moments on your phone when they happen by themselves. Don’t re-create anything.
- If your dog is sensitive in one spot, don’t touch him there until the appointment.
- If your dog limps or seems stiff: short, calm outings, no rough play, no jumping.
- Don’t give your dog any medicines from your own medicine cabinet. Many medicines for people are poisonous to dogs.
- If your dog growls when you touch him: don’t tell him off. Growling is an important warning.
Where to find help
- Your vet practice. Outside opening hours, they will usually tell you the emergency service.
